Independent Trauma-Responsive Social Work Consultancy for Parents & Carers

Parenting a child with a trauma can be complex, emotionally demanding, and often misunderstood.

I provide independent, trauma-responsive consultations for parents and carers who need clear guidance, practical support, and professionally written documents to communicate effectively with local authorities and professionals.

What I provide

1:1 online consultations

  • Trauma-responsive guidance tailored to your family’s needs
  • Professionally written documents to support communication with professionals including:
    • Position statements
    • Chronologies
    • Requests for support
    • Responses to assessments, plans, and reports
    • Impact Pathways – a document that shares the child’s journey, the whole of the child, and the world of the child.
It helps prevent professionals from making assumptions or viewing behaviour as a parenting deficit, instead reframing it as a trauma response
by shifting the lens back to need, history, and context.
  • Preparation for multi-agency meetings and guidance on escalation routes
  • Attendance at crisis or urgent meetings to support advocacy and ensure your child’s needs remain central
  • Family support meetings – helping families understand the complexities of raising a traumatised child

I work through a calm, non-blaming, trauma-responsive lens that helps professionals understand what your child truly needs.

My focus is always the same: to help you be heard, to keep the child’s experience central, and to support constructive, trauma-responsive, recovery-focused dialogue with professionals.

All About Me – Fiona Wells

Social Worker | Adoption Expert | Consultant | Campaigner for Change

I’m an adopted adopter, social worker, trauma trained practitioner, and campaigner dedicated to reshaping the way children, families, and professionals experience adoption and social care. My work is the result of a powerful combination: lived experience, extensive professional practice, and specialist training that together create a uniquely matched credibility.

I have worked in a wide range of settings—residential care, duty and assessment, child protection, fostering, independent social work, and MASH. This broad foundation means I understand the system from multiple perspectives: the families navigating it, the professionals delivering it, and the children living within it. My advanced trauma training in the BDT Trauma Recovery Focused Model further strengthens my ability to support children and families who have been affected by early and relational trauma.

For the past three years, I have been deeply involved in campaigning, informing, and advocating for adopters across the country.

It has involved amplifying adopter voices at national level—through my campaign PATCH (Passionate Adopters Targeting Change, with Hope)

During this time, one thing has become abundantly clear to me:

We need trauma responsive, recoveryfocused pathways that lead families towards sur*thrival, not crisis.

My consultancy is built on exactly that principle.

My approach brings into focus the essential elements that truly shape outcomes for children: the humanity that understands the lived story; the science that explains behaviour and healing; the policy and law that frame decisions; the evolved practice that moves us beyond outdated models; and the family support that sustains recovery. These aren’t separate components—they work together to ensure that a child’s journey is seen, understood, and genuinely supported.

This work matters to me so deeply that I have chosen to build my own consultancy firm—so I can extend my involvement, offer direct support to individual families, and continue campaigning for a system that is compassionate, ethical, and grounded in what children actually need to thrive.

If you are seeking consultancy shaped by lived experience, informed by professional expertise, strengthened by trauma specific training, and driven by a relentless commitment to meaningful change, I would be honoured to work with you.
